I can't help but think that Chile didn't send their top players, but it is refreshing to see Japanese forwards scoring goals. Some promising young players had a chance to play for Japan, and they did a great job. I think the best players from Chile didn't make the trip because of flu fears. Just a thought though, haven't seen any stories about it.
Japan beating Chile shows a lot of improvement. Remember that Chile has to struggle almost every year with powerhouses Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, sometimes winning. Not a weak team to Japan to beat.
But I am most excited to watch Socceroos versus Japan next week.
terebiko, Chile put together a team of local players plus 2 who play in mexico. So don't think that it had anything to do with the flu. These games are not in FIFA's official calendar that's why international players can choose not to play and they are probably having some rest after finishing the european season.
This japanese team with Nakamura and Tulio, both injured, should be complete, that guy Honda was very good he was the MVP of the second division in the Netherlands and will play in first division next season.
Funny how when the game was 0-0 the commentators wouldn't stop talking about Chile being in 3rd position in south american qualifiers and saying how strong they were, always covering all the bases just in case.
Actually, daisan is right. Japanese commentators tend to be naive. That´s why Japan is not good at world sports: even when they lose, they are put on a gold pedestal. They don´t face in-family adversity, everything is green and the sun shines.

Just stating the facts, daisan. I'd advice you to do the same instead of making assumptions.
