OMG-** I guess they won a game last nigh**.
They are supposed to win ONLY Asian tournament. Because they are supposed to be highly trained and have the best training & coach money can buy.
So me thinks they should have a streak of wins
I hate soccer. Sooooooooooooooooooooo, boring !!!!! Anyways good luck !!!!! I hope the coach uses other players be sides E. Honda !!!! They will re-run this game for months to come and have a documentary interview the sports statrs mothers grandmothers and other various muppets.

That was a pretty intense last 20 or so minutes, real pressure on the heart stuff.
Outrageously poor refereeing to give the Syrian penalty. I guess if a player is over 2 metres offside, he's so offside then it isn't offside anymore.
Japan deserved the win and Syria deserve to be punished for the after-match torrent of abuse from players and coaching staff towards the referees.

Good on Japan. I don't know if 2-1 against Syria is all that great a result, but hopefully it'll boost their spirits like the first win and the WC did and they can build on it.

Missed this as it was past my bedtime... but Japan looking in a much beter position now. Only a draw required against the Saudis to go through.

Hey, roomtemp - did you mention Japan's previous opponents? If so, I don't think the mods allow the word Jor.dan in it's natural form.
Whiskeysour - so boring that you had to comment twice on the article? There are plenty of articles on here that you probably don't find boring. Go comment on those.
Miles offside, and I'm not sure where the Syrian players and staff get off haranguing the ref after the game. Anyway, the three points is what matters and they are in control of their own destiny in the group. Still looked a bit ropey at times, and really should have built on a half time lead but showed character to come back and win the game with 10 men.

Japan qualified to next stage, quarterfinal, while they were struggling the game. Honda and Hasebe scored off to beat Syria. The game seemed to be challenging by Japanese team because of the referee, but they made their best and won the game.

Another game with no goals from the striker position, so same as usual.
But Saudi Arabia losing to the team that can not be named on JT was a good result for Japan. They are already out so will have nothing to play for. Looks like Japan is through to the next round, unless they lose big somehow and mess up their goal difference.

Kitagawa, Japan aren't in the quarter-finals yet. If they lose to Saudi Arabia by more goals than Jordan lose to Syria they are out. Any other scenario and they're through, probably 95% certain to make it but still not 100%!

Oops that's not right, is they lose to Saudi then both are on 4 points. If Jordan then beat Syria Japan are out, if Syria beat Jordan then Jordan go through and Japan are out. If they draw it goes to goal diff between Japan, Syria and Saudi.
A draw or win against Saudi and Japan are through.

yokomac, Syria is on only 3 points. If Jordon beats Syria, Japan is through even if they lose.

dear friends, with the victory of japan over syria, i believe japan will make it to the top 4. i predict that japan and south korea will be in the finals. if honda continues to play well, then japan might just end up champions. i would like to see japan get its 4th asian cup trophy.

GJ you're right, and I was right first time! For some reason I got the idea in my head that Saudi had 1 point...

The only people who could see any positives from this game would be the Aussies and the Sth Koreans..Japan are right off the pace right now and running out of time..unless,the fans are happy to run 3rd or 4th.
