KOBE —
Japan came from behind twice to edge Turkey in five sets to claim its second straight victory at the women’s volleyball World Grand Prix on Saturday. Asako Tajimi played a pivotal role in the final set as the host posted a 21-25, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 15-12 win in the preliminary round of the 12-nation tournament. Turkey dropped to 1-1.
In the other match played at Kobe Sports Park, the United States rebounded from an opening-day loss to Turkey with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 drubbing of winless Kazakhstan. The top five teams will join host Japan in the final round to be held in Yokohama from July 9-13.

That was a great match! There was a great volley at 15-10 in the second set I thought would never end.

Once again, we have to watch Matsuda Seiko act like a high school cheerleader. Yuck.

Geez, when will Japan play out of Japan for a change ? The FIVB is the most pathetic organisation on this planet. Apart from the world league matches and the olympics every major tourney has been held in Japan over the last 2o years. Well, Japan should keep on deceiving themselves that they are good after hosting every tourney at home are beating some teams. They will be given a rude awakening in Beijing when the teams they beat here will beat them badly.

Well to be fair, the next match (against USA) will be Japan's last here. They then head to Hong Kong for 3 matches and then to Macau for another 3 (and strangely, in both places, will play China).

Regardless of whether Seiko looks good or not, there's something strange about someone in their forties acting like a high school girl.
