Japanese athletes would be well advised to lose, or risk being lynched en masse along the road between Seoul and Incheon airport.

@ Galapagos - ridiculous comment, we are talking about sporting rivalry here - not a war.
May the rivalry spur on all teams and competitors to PBs and world-class times!

Good luck with that

"Japan has stoked its sporting rivalry with neighbors South Korea ahead of this month’s Asian Games and said it plans to use the multi-sport event in Incheon, west of Seoul, as a springboard to success at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. "
Get ready or te pre-excuses, then te excuses when AsK dominates in many events. Takeda himself has proven prone to foot in mouths saying SK has never breached 90 when they have. Oops!

Burakumindesu@I suggest you read the article beginning on page 46 of Shukan Gendai, issue of Sep. 13, which describes a current bestseller in S. Korea, a fanciful novel by Kim Jong-hyon, about Ahn, the assassin of former PM Ito Hirobumi, who comes back to the future and assassinates PM Abe with a sniper rifle. The sad fact is, Koreans' hatred of Japanese knows no bounds, and that includes "sporting rivalry."

Says the guy whose ENTIRE comment (and the first one as well) on a thread about sports is hatred against South Koreans. Well done, Galapagos! So far today you've railed against technology, using technology to do so, and now preach hatred about hatred.
I guess you've never read the controversial anti-Korean comics that get published here, eh? BurakuminDes has you properly pegged.
Back to sports, though, as I said earlier, Japan will have a very tough time getting a better medal haul than either China or South Korea, so the media announcing it'll be a gauge for the 2020 Olympics is NOT a very wise move as it could mean Japan won't do well in the latter if they are beaten in medal count in these games. Takada has already made a mistake with his claim that SK has never made 90 golds, as they are projecting this time around.

Japan thinks it's rival to S.Korea, despite being three times the population. But I bet S.Korea doesn't think Japan is a rival for second place finish since the 80's, when S.Korea took over that ranking.

Didn't Japan just get knocked out of the qualifying round for soccer (by IRAQ, no less!)?? No news about that.
