japan team, i thought you had more class than that. dont care how good you are, athletes with class show mercy. wonder if they feel good about themselves after this game.

There is no glory for this unfair, so boring and uncompetitive match. The match has broken the world record for scoring the huge amount of goals. A bit humiliating and bullying to opponents. Sportsmanship existed. Not a sportswomenship!

Palestinian women team was just under dog. I wonder whether they have ever kicked the ball in any match before. For boxing, Nippon won the US team with penalties by luck. Now they want to show off how good they are! In the reality, they are not!

This was not a rout. In soccer, a rout is like 3-0.

21-0 is such a humiliating beating, I don't know if the Palestinian women will ever be able to bring themselves to face the Japanese women again.

"a team who wore black leggings beneath their shorts to cover their legs"

    That's ridiculous. Who decided that?

I have been a life long fan of football/soccer. In my birth city Liverpool we say babies are born wearing football boots. This is a game which should never have happened.

That's a goal every 4 minutes. I wanna see a replay and be amused :)

Why bad sports(wo)manship? For years when Australia played in the men's Pacific World Cup qualifying groups they would regularly beat teams like the Cook Islands 25-0.

Bad sportsmanship, lack of respect and lack of class are when you change your game style out of pity for another team. If one team shows another team pity and doesn't play to 100% of their potential, they are spitting on them.

Good on the Japanese girls for going there anyway and putting on a show - even though the result was a farce. I guess the Palestinians just need a chance for competition - it is only very recently that Japan introduced women to soccer and now they are ranked top 5 in the world!

Many sports have a mercy rule. I guess soccer doesn't have one.

    Serrano:

" 1-0 is such a humiliating beating, I don't know if the Palestinian women will ever be able to bring themselves to face the Japanese women again. "

Absolutely they will. From the "Palestinian" side, this is not about soccer, it is simply politics. Whatever gets this fictional "Palestinian" state into the media is good from their point. The idea that muslim Arab women would have the background to compete in any sports is silly, off the bat.

No. The tenting of women is not "cultural/religious", it is "religious/political".

Mercy rules are ridiculous . I'm glad the footballing (soccer) world doesn't have 'mercy rules'. The Japanese women's team did nothing wrong. Both teams played fairly, from what I hear.

and the palestinians are coming back for more on Sat'day night..their coach can start looking for alternative employment arrangements.

The defending of mercy rules is sickening. When the Japanese rugby team lost badly this year to the NZ rugby team 83-7, nobody demanded mercy rules. Likewise, in men's football, when we won against the Tajiks 8-0, nobody demanded the need for mercy rules. Or is this an American thing? I've never heard Japanese teams of any sport wanting mercy rules. I've never heard of non-American football supporters talk about wanting it either.

Anyway, back on topic, realistically, it's just that the Japanese women's team were stronger than the Palestinian women's team, so the Japanese team was more likely to win, in which they did. Women's football attracts far less attention than men's, so it's nice that more countries are playing it.

The problem is not the Japanese woman's team, but the inept opposition's.

I just hope they do not come and play here in Japan and then decide to get some kind of revenge, you know, blow themselves up like they do back in Israel. But sure football, oops, soocer?? Is or can be a beautiful sport!

Sickening display of sportsmanship!! Nadeshoko should be ashamed of themselves for putting on such a show. No humility at all. No respectful for an obiviously weaker opponent. Personally, I hope they get embarrassed in the next world cup by losing horrifically. Japan vs Palestine. That is not even a fair match to begin with. Japan should have shown some class.

They graciously came to promote women football in Palestine and they certainly inspired a lot of young girls who were watching in the stands ... What's disgraceful is to show pity, playing at your best until the end is the best way to show respect.

thats FUNNY when jp beat the US in a game everyone was going crazy. here Japan beats "palestinians" & everyone feeels sorry for them. too bad they Lost! thats how it goes. JP & the US don't win too many world cups, so theres alot more competition out there. its just a Game anyway.

    calm down

Totally agree with Clemente about always doing your best..do you expect the All Blacks to slow down today with pity ?? Yeah,right...

  • 1

    zichi

If you don't play to your best, the team could be accused of cheating. That's football!

Maybe the Palestinian young ladies, will use this experience to brush up their game?? Maybe one day, we will have great female footballers (soccer players) from Gaza etc..playing soccer against, say Jews, Israelis etc..with out violence, just getting down to enjoying a lovely sport called football by those in the old countries and soccer by those in the new world?? It sucks to lose, but we can learn from our mistakes right?? IMHO.

My question for all the people complaining about the lack of sportsmanship by the Japanese team is this; "Just what would you have wanted them to do?"

Would have preferred they lost? Not try? Which would be even more if an insult. Play keep away with the ball in the center of the field? That would be insulting as well.

I say kudos to both teams, one for Japan for sticking it out even though they KNEW they were playing an overmatched opponent, and one to the Palestinian women for sticking it out in the face of such an onslaught. Adversity in sports many times makes the losers hungry to get better. I hope that this is the case for the Palestinian women.

The people that should be called on the carpet are the organizers of the match. It should never have happened in the first place.
