There's just something wrong with using the words "rugby player" and "facial cream" in the same sentence. Most rugby players I'v seen are not particularly sensative about their looks.

techall: This is Japan... have you not seen the young men applying cosmetics? Maybe not yet, but they'll be sitting next to the women doing so on the trains within a few years.
Anyway, Yamanaka ought to have checked the contents of his facial before applying, no?

@Smithinjapan:
Understood but we are talking about rugby players......associated more with coliflower ears, broken noses, missing teeth.

He could of been bullied into using the skin cream, by taunts of babyface. Poor guy, I hope he grows some pubes.

why is he trying to grow facial hair in a country where many if not most people frown on it?

Doesn't matter where the substance came from or why he used it. If it's banned, it's banned. But that's a ridiculous pretext. Many blokes here are using depilatories to lift off whatever body hair they have. If he wants to save his reputation, though, he should submit his cream to testing.

Evidently you missed my point; we are talking about Japan -- doesn't matter if their fake-homosexual actors or sumo wrestlers (actually, most top sumo wrestlers are foreigners) -- they put on make-up and try to feel oh-so pretty.

A lot of women use creams to remove facial hair - this bloke used a cream to grow it! Go figure. Anyway, rules are rules. Every pro sportsperson has it drummed into them to NEVER take ANY form of medication without running it by the team doctors. Most of them these days won't even touch painkillers for a headache unless it's been cleared. He should cop the 2 years for stupidity alone - though I do feel sorry for him. I too have issues growing a decent moustache - and I'm 10 years older!

Guess is better to look like innocent idiots than to admit they consumed a banned substance on purpose, just like eating 'drug laced' meat or having 'too much' herbal tea. Good thing is they are still getting banned from the sport.
