While this would be REALLY awesome for us, I am 100% sure it will not happen since they just hosted the World Cup a couple years ago. I was lucky enought to go to a couple games when they were here and it was amazing.

What a waste of time and money! "World Cup" means the world gets to share it. What about this doesn't Japan understand? Still has a few continents to pass through before it's Asia's time again- and when it does come back here I suspect China, Australia or somewhere other than Japan will get it (I hope!)

Why not ask the mayor of Tokyo to promote it? I'm sure that'll be a hit with the football loving Brazilians.

Maybe if japan decided to be a little less racist and more accepting of non Japanese it might help. But as said above, japan you just had it!! Wait your turn.

Maybe they should try getting the World Baseball Classic to Japan.

This is just a waste of time. All these old foggies don't want to host a World Cup and all it entails. They just want the massive expenditures on infrastructure that occur as a result of the World Cup. Talk about an inability to think outside the box. This country does not seem to be able to get beyond an economic growth model that is based on a combination of neo-mercantilism and largess from the central government. It is all about building highways to nowhere and empty stadiums that are underutilized anyway. What a waste of money!

Moreover, what is it with 2018 or 2022? It has to be one or the other. If Japan losses in 2018, does this mean they will resurrect the same failing strategy for 4 years later. Geez, it sounds like the rumors already circulating that Don Quixote (otherwise known as Governor Ishihara) will again saddle up his horse and take another tilt at the windmills (an Olympics bid), despite the fact that his comments this time around regarding the IOC have probably poisoned Japan's chances for the next 20 years.

Waste of time and money, wishfull thinking, and yes, Ishihara has upset the IOC and ruined all the changes for forseable future. Even stoners wouldn't think this wishfully.

There's a rugby world cup? Since when. Japan would be better hosting more obscure sports with the view to becoming the most prominent sports host across the spectrum.

Goes to show what I know. When is the RWC coming to Japan? Maybe home ground advantage will finally help them to win a game.

Japan won't get it, i suspect the next in line to host the world cup is the Netherlands and Belgium

The newt world cups will go to Australia and either England or Russia, probably England.

Wakarimasen: They are already going to host an RWC, or at least have applied for it. That's one reason why people were complaining about the concurrent bids for other events like the WC and Olympics, as well as of course the WBC, Expo, and what not -- Japan seems to think it's the center of the world and wants all the world's sporting events.

Anyway, it's a waste of time and money. The promise to give them a WC final pretty much guarantees they won't get anything BUT that, even IF that. They just had it a few years back, and with all the other countries bidding Japan and SKorea don't have a hope in hell, unless SKorea pulled some magic and said they would unite with NKorea to host it, or something equally miraculous. What does Japan have? A SLIGHTLY better chance after the miserable failure to get the 2016 Olympics.

I would LOVE to see it here, don't get me wrong, but that's simply NOT going to happen and the money would be better spent on the Japanese people (and other inhabitants of this land).

When you think that England the home of the game will not have had it for 52 years by 2018 and they really want it then Japan`s bid is indeed optimistic.

Maybe by 2018 or 2022 the lingering racists in the LDP will have been replaced with more progressive pols, and Ishihara will be history by then too. No fearmongering about marauding hooligans to mar the playoffs like during the last Korea-Japan hosted FIFA tournament. That would be refreshing, and might give them a sporting chance.
