This will floor the Japanese for awhile... my wife's mate dated him in uni and she did not know. Very yank story of a guy caught up in two worlds, the suicide/shame. Adoption and mixing blood...these people cannot grasp it...then there is baseball, a yank sport... RIP. btw... not sure if he ever found his father...let me know. Goes to show you are a product of your environment. This guy was a great ballplayer... and the story about a credit card rejection and wailing on an Osaka bartender was off... the truth lies somewhere in the middle. People from both sides of the Pacific hassled him and I am surprised but sort of not...he never came back.

He was a true pioneer who paved the way for others like Ichiro and Matsui. He will truly be missed on both sides of the Pacific (actually more in Japan since I know several Yankees fans still ticked off about the money he cost them). It is sad that he even though he desperately wanted to find his real father in the U.S., he couldn't.

The following is an interesting article about Irabu:

This is just sad. The guy was rich, yet he apparently killed himself.
