I like Mao chan, and I admire her for fighting through her tragedy, but I thinks she's already past her prime

Carolina Kostner was 27 years old when she won bronze at Sochi 2014 so should not be any issue regarding age. The only thing Mao have have to be consistent both mentally and physically to win medal there.

Would be cool to see Kim Yuna in the mix too in her home country but I think she is done, right?

Doesn't know when to quit... in this case not a point of praise. The only thing she's ensuring is that media attention will be focused on the wrong people again.

Not at her best now, but in <2 yrs who knows. She has the natural talent, education and ability to medal again. If she does not try one last time she will regret it. Making the 2018 Olympic dedication push now makes sense because training may take that long for her goals.

Now wouldn't that throw a big spanner in the works!

But then again, if Kim came back, she wouldn't be Asada's only rival. Let's face it, Asada now has many (younger) rivals now. I think Kim got out during the right time and for the right reasons. Skating at that sort of level must be taxing on the body and mind. Maybe she also felt she'd achieved all her goals - she got gold in Vancouver and the best medal that was on offer in Sochi before the games even started. I also have a feeling Asada is pressured into continuing.

I know who I'd love to see perform in Pyeongchang. S̶o̶c̶h̶i̶'̶s̶ ̶p̶r̶e̶d̶e̶t̶e̶r̶m̶i̶n̶e̶d̶ ̶w̶i̶n̶n̶e̶r̶ The defending 'champion'.

If she dropped that old guy and got a new coach she might do be good, but I guess that will never happen. I just don't think he is good for her mentally or strategically.
