His book may be good for "Koukou Yakyu" (high school baseball) players..His performance at Beijing Olympics was far below professional standards.

1.20 ERA is impressive.

i doubt he's got any "secret techniques"...there's only a couple of ways to throw each pitch, generally with the seams or across the seams

I had one of those "how to" pitching books when I was a kid. Never could get the hang of though.

Yu Darvish is not a "kid." He's a grown man with a family.
He would be a good MLB starter right now. He has that kind of stuff. Whether he can stay healthy and wants a career in MLB down the road is another thing altogether.
Anyway, Darvish is already quite an inspiration for many "haafu" kids like Koji Murofushi was earlier this decade in successive Summer Olympics.
Recently I'm thinking it more likely he will wind up in the Tokyo Dome for the Yomiuri Giants say...around 2012.
At the least, he'll tire of Sapporo in a few years, and need to be center stage in Japan in the Tokyo market, and for his wife as well.

Darvish is inconsistant with the control. He has also a predictable flat fastball, and if you get it up in zone, MLB will exploit that. There's substantial difference in MLB and Japanese baseball, the Japanese baseball is equivalent AAA or upper AA teams in the U.S. and most of the U.S. AAA team will be very competitive with the Japanese. MLB is very patient and smart at a plate and Darvish at this point in the career is predictable. I seen him has a 4th or 5th starter in the U.S. but not dominant. San Francisco Giants Tim Lincecum has all four pitches that are unpredictable, and if you see him in person, there's no comparison between Lincecum and Darvish. I'll take Lincecum anyday.
