Amazing that she can throw out a dude twice her size. Good on her. As for the freak who says women shouldn't be allowed to join the pro ranks because the ring is not for women and is up to the gods. Let him go cry in his corner that foreigners are making the sport more popular and other such 'non-pure' things.

The times, they are a changin' as the saying goes. Women are showing they can compete and she seems to know technique well. I don't see her doing that to a top pro anytime in the near future but still impressive. A little nitpicking but so many people here say 'I have no money.' Bet she has more than at least half the world's people or can easily call on family members to bail her out in a tight financial situation.

I thought sumo was banned for women? I remember reading about it somewhere around here, about things that are still banned for women in Japan, sumo being one of them. Something about how women are not pure for the sumo ring. Not implying they shouldn't, more power to them if they let them and can do it, but just saying.

Rene X women are not allowed to compete or be involved in ceremonies at Professional Sumo. Also they are not allowed to enter or the touch the dohyo (the wrestling ring).

The Sumo Association should be happy that outside Japan no one is really interested. They would not even have a japanese Ozeki. Just imagine 20 of strongest NFL linemen came over here.... they might have to close the place down, with their big "rockstars" like Endo....
Hakuo is worth watching, he has quality, style and stays centered almost every time. The rest is circus and most of all a business.

Volland, as much as I like sumo, I'm afraid I got to agree with you on the circus point. Too much money and fame has brought sumo to the sorry state of today. They can talk all they want about the samurai spirit, etc, that's long gone..
