at least they didn`t treat him harshly until he died. there is a line not to cross when toughening up someone. that line was crossed and thank goodness the stable master will be in prison for awhile. to bad the "kids" only got suspended sentences.

Baka. That is just accepting something that is wrong for fear of antagonizing the barbarians. When will you stop taking it deeper and deeper?

I'm with you "outofmydepth" but trust me, that barbarian stable master will be out after his appeal(s) are heard and the judge will say something along the lines of, "he has suffered enough and lost his standing in society."
If you are a professional in relation to training someone there is always a certain amount of pushing that needs to be done, but being a professional it is your job to know the psyche of the person your training and how far you can push him or her.
In this case it was physical and mental bullying and everyone involved should be going to prison.

There is a big difference between training and bullying. That poor kid lost his life due to bullying. Bullying is rampant in this culture. From the weak kid on a sports team, to an office bucho humiliating a worker in a od voice right in front of everyone in the office. You see it all the time in tv dramas too.

Didn't help Kaio to reach the pinnacle though.

Why must they preface the word sumo with "japan's ancient sport". its certainly no older than other forms of wrestling around the world.

He needs to pack it up.There is no defense of what happened to that kid.

Large bodies and small brains! 6 years for MURDER is joke but then that's the Japanese judicial system and sumo money hard at work!

if he as a son and his son was brutally slapped to dead by some nutty master, i am sure he would never say that the 6 years sentence is “reasonable”!

There is always an excuse why a Japanese is lazy, and why Bulgarians, Mongols, Americans etc. are working harder. Who are the next yokozunas? Pygmies? They are hungry for sure.
To be exact, as a sport, it is much younger...

that is the problem a slap and harsh training sesion does not compare to the hours of punishment this kid had.

He's unwittingly gave his audience an excellent explanation of why sumo recruitment of young Japanese is down to a trickle.

Yep, I would say a fatal beating is going a little beyond his definition of harsh treatment.
I'm sorry but this sounds suspiciously like another fine example of Japanese brainwashing to me
