Omedeto! At Last!! I was happy last week when Kanemoto stopped on 1999 hits because his next three games were back at Koshien and I though it would be great to get his 2000th hit at home. Who would've thought it would take 15 at bats to get it... Great to watch though, wish I could've been there. I was at Koshien when Kanemoto got his 1000th RBI with a homerun over his old team Hiroshima (The next day Hanshin scored 21 runs against Hiroshima and 2 days later scored 16 runs against the Giants at Tokyo Dome and won 5 games in a row). The crowd went nuts then, I imagine it would have been similar at Yokohama yesterday.

Great to see Arai get his 1000th hit last night in the same game and nice to get the win too.

I missed the Giants game and result... Did they win? Oh there it is in small writing at the bottom of the article, they lost, again, to Yakult, for the 4th time in 5 games against Yakult, great stuff!

Big game tonight, Hanshin has to win to get the card, lets hope it doesn't get rained out!

Omedetou 'aniki' ! 2000th career hit and that career is 17 years, means less than 120 hits per year, was it news worthy? yes, but was it worthy of Headline News on TV channels including NHK?

Kanemoto didn't play many games in his first 3 years, he played just 4 as a rookie. Still, 120 hits per year for 17 years is not bad. Kanemoto is 39 and still hits consistently, he has hit around 140 every year with the Tigers and has been a regular member of the Hanshin cleanup. The reason it is news is that Kanemoto is popular. Suprised it was on NHK though.

Great start for Hanshin this season. Arai is a natural replacement if Kanemoto retires in the future. Yomiuri were up 4-1 and still lost ! Guiel actually hit the top section of the Tokyo Dome stand with an absolutely huge homer ! As a Tigers fan, it's like a second win on the same day when Yomiuri lose. The Yomiuri shinbun will probably concentrate on Kanemoto's 2,000 hits and not mention their loss.

Tomoaki Kanemoto has had an outstanding career. He has truly demonstrated toughness and perseverance over two decades in pro baseball. I also admire him because he helps the Japanese see that all Japanese, regardless of ethnic background, should be treated equally. Watching the Hanshin Tigers fans` love affair with him, it gives me hope about the future. I hope he can stay healthy enough to play 2 or 3 more years. Congratulations, Kanemoto, on your 2,000th hit, and joining the Meikyukai.
