KYOTO —
Takuya Nozawa fired Kashima Antlers back to the top of the J-League with a super strike in a 1-0 win away to Kyoto Sanga on Saturday. Nozawa settled a dull affair late in the first half at Nishikyogoku Stadium to temporarily lift the Antlers two points clear of Kawasaki Frontale, who visit relegated Oita Trinita on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Gamba Osaka kept alive their title hopes with a 2-0 win at Shimizu S-Pulse while Kashiwa Reysol survived another day by edging Albirex Niigata 1-0. Urawa Reds improved to 52 points after an Edmilson hat-trick earned a 3-2 win at home to Jubilo Iwata. At the bottom of the table, Franca’s 36th-minute strike gave Kashiwa a victory at Niigata, moving them to within four points of safety after Omiya Ardija drew 0-0 at Montedio Yamagata. Vissel Kobe came from behind to draw 2-2 with Yokohama F Marinos, while Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Nagoya Grampus finished goalless.
