Ikuro Katsuragi delivered a tiebreaking eighth-inning single Wednesday and the Hanshin Tigers’ vaunted bullpen held off the Yomiuri Giants in a 5-4 victory. The Central League leader won its third straight, thanks to three consecutive singles by Takahiro Arai, Tomoaki ‘‘Ironman’’ Kanemoto and Katsuragi to break a 4-4 tie in the decisive eighth at Tokyo Dome.
In other CL games, Chunichi hammered Hiroshima 10-3 and Yakult edged Yokohama 2-1. In the Pacific League, Seibu beat Nippon Ham 4-3, Rakuten topped Softbank 9-7 and Orix defeated Lotte 7-6 over 10 innings.
