“Michael has voluntarily accepted this reprimand and has committed to earn back our trust.”
And will never again allow anyone with a camera anywhere near him when he’s getting out of his head

He's a dumb kid.

Oh please he just smoked a little pot who cares.
openyoureyes at 02:42 AM JST - 7th February
doesn't this kill the idea that smoking pot somehow limits your potential? this guy has more gold medals than some people have teeth!

The US is so up tight about the "war on drugs" that the sponsors are going to have to react and I'm sure the Sunday sermons will have a lot about Phelps and what a bad example he is. I'm always amazed at the amount of hypocracy the US is willing to put up with. Drink, pot, tobacco, whatever. It's tough to explain to my son why everybody is busy criticizing Phelps while they are sucking down their third beer.
On the other hand with all the camera phones in the world no celebrity is more than one photo op away from humiliation. Which is why the press exists, isn't it. Face it, privacy is pretty much over. It's a strange new world.

This is just stupid. Yeah, he may have one an ass-load of olympic medals at 23, but apparently none of that matters because he took a bong hit at a college party. Thanks, Nixon.

His contract with Kellogg was due to expire this February, they merely choose not to renew is all that occurred.
And this from the company that feeds our children Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs, and other such garbage.

"he just smoked a little pot who cares"
So many people, it'll make your head spin faster than if you took a drag off a joint filled with Acapulco Gold, ha ha ha!
"And this from the company that feeds our children Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs and other such garbage"
No worries, Michael will soon have a contract with General Mills, the company that feeds our children and adults Cap'n Crunch! Ha ha ha!

Bad judgement.
Dubious, in fact.

I use to look up to the lad... But not any more. As a person that believes in morals and standards and chivalry I was rather disappointed by his actions, and to think that my little brothers looked up to him is also worrisome. People can make the wrong decisions and actions at any time, but when you are looked upon by children I think there is a bit of responsibility with the actions you choose and take. I feel sorry for the lad....

Maybe the guy was actually looking for a way out. He's got nothing to prove to anyone.
earthcreature at 08:16 AM JST - 13th February
Yea I agree.... But it still saddens me....
