Thanks sarge. it took 2 seconds or less then? well despite the Pathat Kids rhetoric I am hugely proud of the boy. Lets hope he can keep it going. wining today is one thing but as we know sumo is not child's play. Lets hope he can be amongst men and become a Yokozuna.

bound to be the occasional blip on the mongolian radar. not as if he deserved it. but, in a tournament of weaklings, the unsteady, unbalanced, unsure, unprepossessing kotoshu may well pick up a hollow victory.

Congrats to Kotooshu. He really has returned to his old form this tournament, and even exceeded it. Nothing in the past couple years gave me any hint that Kotooshu was capable of this, but he seems to be using those few extra kilograms on his frame to his best advantage.

I will say, though, that Kotooshu looks like he is about to be ill before each match. His loss a couple days ago was pure nerves, and he's had the same expression on his face. Any more nervous, and he'd be vomiting. And then after the match, he suddenly has the weight of the world off his shoulders and lets out a big grin. People see that Kotooshu is nervous, and they will use that against him in the future if he doesn't find a way to control it, just like Aminishiki did by being slow to line up in the crouch and then pulling a false start. It left Kotooshu a basket of nerves, and the disgust on his face after the match reflected the nervous expression on his face before the match. Next tournament, Kotooshu will need to control these nerves. Of course, winning this tournament may help, but the pressure of a yokozuna promotion will make nerves even harder to control.

I'm happy pretty boy finally won. He's put in his time, he's worked hard, he's overcame his injuries and he appears to be an over all nice guy.

Kotooshu will loose the "pretty boy" tag when he becomes Yokozuna.

Sorry pathat, you are barking up the wrong tree with criticism of sarge, myself and others, no one here is using the word "boy" in a derogatory manner.

  • pathat at 10:31 AM JST - 25th May

    VOR:

Kotooshu will loose the "pretty boy" tag when he becomes Yokozuna.

If it is already loose, then it will be even easier for him to lose the tag when he becomes yokozuna, now won`t it?

vor: you, sarge, northlondon, and romulus are just having trouble dealing with the fact that you boys were so wrong about Kotooshu this tournament and now you have guilty consciences about it.

Kotooshu is the champ this time and will be able to make a serious run at a promotion to grand champion in the next tournament. You boys will just have to learn to live with it. Good-bye til the next tournament!

As much as I like Kotooshu, He will never be promoted to Yokozuna.Winning two basho in a row is not a guaranteed promotion to Yokozuna. He is nowhere near the level of the two current yokozuna and he has a couple of other things riding against him.

  • PrinceskaNo1 at 02:28 PM JST - 25th May

Please do not underestimate Kotooshyu. Most of you were wrong that he would not be able to win the tournament. Now I see that some of you doubt his ability to climb to the rank of yokozuna. He will prove you wrong again. How could you say that he is nowhere near the level of the Mongolian yokozunas?! It is so funny. He has regularly defeated Hakuho and Asashoryu in the past. The problem was his stability but if he is healthy, he will continue to defeat the yokozunas for the joy of the fans of the sumo. Sumo is interesting because of him because only he challenges the yokozunas. It is always exciting when the low in ranks beat the higher ranking wrestlers. So even if he does not become yokozuna, he will continue to show the best of the sumo and make the tournaments exciting and exercsize pressure on the yokzunas.

Now about his physical beauty. If you were female, you will notice his amazing attractiveness. In his sexy attire he looks like god, such a figure, such a height, such a beautiful face. He is stunning, like a gladiator. I am sure the Roman gladiators looked like him but a little more fierce. Kotooshyu has such a good and kind look.

  • PrinceskaNo1 at 02:31 PM JST - 25th May

I hope he celebrates his yusho with a defeat over Chiotaikai and makes his father proud again.

  • GrouchyGaijin at 04:15 PM JST - 25th May

If memory and records serve me correctly, former Oseki Konishiki extracted a ruling from the Grand Sumo Council that an Ozeki who won two tournaments in a row would be favorably considered for the rank of Yokozuna. So, it is not inconceivable that, all going well, Koto-oshu, should he win the next basho, would legitimately be a valid and qualified candidate. By their own publicly established standards, regardless of race, religion, creed or personal preferences, he could well attain the top spot. “поздравление!” Hearty congratulations (in Bulgarian), Koto-oshu!

gee pathat, me and northlondon never doubted the boy. sarge is a different matter, but sarge has a right to be cynical. he has seen everything. I wish ko=chan all the best for the next tournament and wishes he wins them all. I am a big fan of the strapping young lad from Boygaria.

  • Sarge at 06:03 PM JST - 25th May

PrinceskaNo1 - Your dream came true - the Bulgarian gladiator marched Chiyotaikai out in style, and, by golly, Hesperian's scenario played out with Kotooshu finishing at 14-1 and the two yokozuna both at 11-4! Hakuho looked pissed when he lost!

  • HesperianC730 at 06:19 PM JST - 25th May

Thank you very much Sarge for agreeing with me. The puzzle fitted perfectly well!!

For Hakuho fans out there, it will take blood, sweat and tears to defeat Asashoryu next time around. Asashoryu will never be intimidated...

For Kotooshu, hold on to your winning streaks. Just maintain your 12-3 or 13-2 or 14-1.. you'll be a step closer to your dream ,we never can tell....CONGRATULATIONS ONCE AGAIN!!

  • northlondon at 07:18 PM JST - 25th May

Was it just me, or did all the Japanese men in the audience leave immediately once the Bulgarian Ambassador entered to dohyo and things turned decisively gaikokujin ? The Japanese ladies stayed on though. Ha,ha,ha ! A good-looking Grand Tournament Champion, and he's gaikokujin. Ha,ha,ha !

  • northlondon at 07:21 PM JST - 25th May

    pathat,

I beat you hands-down in the Kotooshu fan stakes my son. I'm not kidding you, I happen to live in the same street as the Bulgarian Ambassador and I've already sent my son round there to find out when the party is. Hell, I may even get the Bulgarian kids autograph for you.
