Kyoei gym parts with Kameda brothers

TOKYO —

The Kyoei gym said Friday it will part company with Koki and Daiki Kameda as the relationship with the ‘‘bad-boy’’ boxing brothers has deteriorated beyond repair. Kyoei gym president Keiichiro Kanehira said he reached a formal agreement with the brothers’ management office to terminate the contracts of former WBA light flyweight champion Koki and Daiki, who was slapped with a one-year ban after using underhanded tactics in a WBC flyweight title match against Daisuke Naito last October.

‘‘I can’t talk about the content of the agreement and the past. I believe that the termination of their contracts was agreeable. I hope they will do their best in the future,’’ Kanehira said. Koki, 21, is the eldest of the three Kameda brothers and joined the Kyoei gym in April 2005. The Kameda family has gained pariah status ever since Daiki, 19, caused a sensation when he was coaxed by Koki and the brothers’ father Shiro Kameda to fight dirty against Naito on Oct 11.

This is all a bit late isn't it ? And I don't like the way this gym and other sponsors only distanced themselves once Daiki Kameda got his ban. They were all perfectly happy with the money rolling in when the Kameda's were popular and on TV.

Koki Kameda is not a bad boxer. He needs to get rid of his father's influence and maybe go to somewhere like the Kronk gym and train away from Japan. He still may have a future as a good fighter if he forgets that Japanese TV talent thing.

May be Kameda Brothers should go to London and join BigBrothers there.

These two are total losers, and deserve to be banned from boxing in any professional tournaments/bouts for good. I saw Daiki on a Japanese variety show the other day playing the victim, with all the others 'talents' (cough cough) supporting him and tearing up at the eyes, and it made me want to vomit; they forgot to show all the clips of his family swearing and bad talking, punching below the belt and what not, of course, but hey.... who says bias is dead.

I still think Koki has some boxing talent to put to a good use. These are boxers remember. There are not many nice people who have become world champions of boxing. Mike Tyson, Zab Judah, Prince Naseem, Bernard Hopkins, Marvin Hagler. You think they are people you want to come across in everyday life ?

Why is Marvellous Marvin on this list ?

  • northlondon at 02:17 AM JST - 11th May

Marvelous Marvin Hagler is one of the greatest boxers of all time. But he ain't no angel and in the ring he was an animal. Hagler cut Alan Minter's face to pieces when he won his first world title and he could do as much rough stuff in the ring as we saw the Kameda's get up to. Like I said, these guys are pro boxers so let's not get too soft when discussing how they behave inside and outside of the ring.
