Man United signs di Maria in record deal

And gets twatted by MK Dons immediately afterwards.

From beating Real, Inter and Liverpool in pre-season to breaking the British transfer record fee to being humiliated by a League 1 team, quite frankly it's been a roller coaster these past few weeks as a United fan. Hopefully things can only get better from here.

But are you taking into account the line up we had? 10 changes from last weekend's fixture with Sunderland. We still should have won against a League One side, even if they were The Dons, but it just goes to show how deficient we are in defense when we allow four goals (poor De Gea) and in the mid field when we can't create anything up front even with the strikers we field. I'm going to be patient with the new philosophy and system but it's still hard to watch. I hope the introduction of Di Maria and hopefully another solid signing (Vidal?) will help with the transition...

^ I take into account the fact that in total 6 players on the pitch for United throughout the game have PL winners medals to their name. Welbeck, Chicharito, Kagawa, this team had more than enough firepower to beat Dons. At this point it seems more of an issue of confidence for half the lot and the other half lot simply not being good enough for United.

I won't judge van Gaal, I don't need to. The guy has won almost every major trophy in Europe. His system will take time to work, as it did in Bayern and Barcelona. 3 defenders can be tough to play, it requires great awareness and athletic ability. Defending spaces is tougher than defending players. Signing Di Maria is a step in the right direction for providing creativity. Hopefully with a couple more signings (we need a defender badly) and better luck with injuries, we will be right up there come the business end of the season.

Panic buy, just like last season. Since finding themselves hundreds of millions in debt, United have looked for "value" in the transfer market. This is a false economy, because when you get desperate people end up charging you way over the odds. Fellaini, Mata, the new contract given to Rooney - these are all huge mistakes.

No big deal going out of the League Cup, although the players out there should have been good enough to beat MK Dons. City's second string would probably beat Man U's strongest line-up. Man U need at least two defenders and two centre midfielders. They haven't played a top side yet and still look very weak in midfield and dodgy at the back. Di Maria is a good addition to a good attack but a top class midfield and forward line could run riot against Man U.
