Ichiro went 0-3, dropping his average to .353. He’s second to Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer

mere frustration. Mauer is far ahead and Ichiro simply can do nothing about it.

Ha ha haaaa. Toronto won the game 5-4. I was there. And it seemed that Ichiro did a little more than draw the line. He stepped over it. Stood there for a little bit and (from a distance) looked to give some attitude. My wife was upset, but I had a nice little chuckle.

Let the man give a bit of an attitude. Happens in competitive sports. And players make judgment errors, so do umpires. But apparently Runge swiftly drew a line at, well, Ichiro drawing a line (sorry!) It may please the hoi polloi Ichiro is for once put in his place and his having lost some of his performance, but what counts for the man and the Mariners is that he has the largest number of hits for the team. Finally, there is no shame in being next to Mauer. Let's see again how the standings are in a couple of years, home runs, hits, averages.

I find it pretty remarkable that this is the first time in his career he was thrown out of a game. Most likely his life. Shows that he has a tremendous amount of discipline.

He does. He is an amazing person who is a perfectionist about every aspect of his play, his form, the game and his life.

We all have bad days.

The good thing that came out of this is that Ichiro seems more human. In any case, I suspect the Japanese will quickly erase this episode from their minds, quite good at pressing the ignorance button.

Is this the same Brian Runge who was involved in the chest bumping incident with Mets manager Charlie Manuel last year? Is this also the same Brian Runge who was also involved in an altercation with Milton Bradley, two years ago? Not to mention another run in with Twins manager Ron Gardenhire last year.

Yep and if you watched the replays of that, it was Runge who bumped into Manuel and initiated the contact. It's all about Runge when he's in the game. The best umpires are the ones you never notice.

I wouldn't go that far, especially with the way he acts in games against South Korea, but he is very disciplined, yes. Clearly on this day he was not, and he got called for it. No biggy, and obviously people will jump to his defense on this. Everyone else gets ejected once in a while, so Ichiro is simply showing how far he's been integrated into the Big Leagues.
