Matsui helps power Yankees to win

TORONTO —

Hideki Matsui hit a pinch-hit, tiebreaking single in the seventh inning of the New York Yankees’ 8-4 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Matsui gave the Yankees the lead for good at 4-3 in the seventh when he singled on a soft fly ball to left field off Josh Roenicke with a runner on third and one out.
   
In other action, Houston Astros second baseman Kazuo Matsui reached 400 combined stolen bases in the major and Japanese leagues when he stole second in a 10-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants.Kazuo Matsui went 1-for-5 with an RBI. His 12th stolen base of the season came in the second inning after he hit a run-scoring infield single. Ichiro went 2-for-5 with an RBI single and a stolen base as the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 11-6. The nine-time All-Star has raised his major league-leading batting average to .365.
