NEW YORK —
New York Yankees designated hitter Hideki Matsui hit a solo home run and went 2-for-4 in a 6-5, 12-inning win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. Matsui drove a 2-1 pitch from Roy Halladay over the wall in right-center, his 12th homer of the season, to tie the game 2-all in the second at Yankee Stadium. He also hit a ground-rule double to left and was lifted for a pinch-runner in the eighth.
At Fenway Park, Ichiro went 1-for-5 with a single as the Seattle Mariners beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2. Kenji Jojima was hitless in three at-bats. Out of the Red Sox bullpen, Hideki Okajima threw a perfect eighth, but Takashi Saito (2-2) gave up a tie-breaking single to Chris Woodward after loading the bases on three walks.
