Well, getsy, in defense of the Americans I would say that the world's best players generally go play in the big leagues. So even if they said "USA Champions" they are basically comprised of the best players in the world. Might as well just say "World Champs".
Yeah but because there isnt a World Competition it should be the USA Champs.. Now If the world made a world competition the best players wouldn't have to go to the US... and also if there was a world competition what would they call it... or what would the US call their comp. Anyway the point is no other country is playing so it can't be a world comp.....

Does that mean Japan won the world Series because Matsui was playing?
He's so valuable he only played in three of six games, but I guess giving Matsui the MVP means we're all square on the internment camps, right? Chase Utley had five homers, by the way, and can throw and catch baseballs as well.
"World Series" is appropriate even if the Europeans or the Cubans don't send a team over, yet. (Ya can't fail if you don't try, right?)
Matsui played in all 6 WS games but just as pinch-hitter in Philadelphia, where he still went 2 for 3 with a homerun. But he was still a pure DH (never played the field), so for that, WS MVP is very rare if ever.
And quality ain't cheap. As poppy put it, if you're good at something, don't do it for free. The more good, the less free. But ya still have to pay the right people the big money. Not just any big money are the right people.
.
getsy, what does country have to do with club world championship?
.
European pundits consider the UEFA Champions League the world champions, to South Americans' chagrin.
.
Technically, the NBA and the Super Bowl could be world championships.
getsy, what does country have to do with club world championship?
Well it does have something to do with it... Why use the word World Championship and World Champions when only US teams are playing..... Why not use the words USA Championship and USA Champions..... When the world gets involved then the name should be used... but I guess Amercians do think they are the world..... and everything should rotate around their world......... Don't you think?
A club world championship is about clubs, not nations. When you mentioned that "Does that mean Japan won the world Series because Matsui was playing?", no, that does not mean Japan won the World Series. That also does not mean the USA won the World Series, nor Cuba, nor Venezuela, etc. The club won the World Series and arguably the champions of the world. The club, not the nation.
Baseball is played in only a handful of countries. And it's obvious where at least 9 out of 10 best players of the world play. Same thing with American football - is there anybody gonna argue that the winner of the Super Bowl is not the best club in the world?
that is just stupid what you are saying lostrune2.... Exactly what you say.... American Football.. The club that wins in the US should be USA Champions... Not classed as world champions.... When Australia plays Australian football (Aussie Rules) and the team that wins the Championship (or as they say Premiership) They are not known as World Champions even know the best plays in the world only play in the top 16 clubs in Australia... I guess thats the difference between Americans and the rest of the world.... I just don't get it... If the Melbourne baseball team win the Championship in Australia they do turn around and say.."We are world Champions" How could they only Australian teams played and they didnt even get to play the NY Yankees... Now you say the best players play in the US... but not all the best players can play in the US..if all the best players in the world played in the US there wouldn't be very many Americans in the teams.....
Spalding Guide of America in 1887 named it "Worlds championship Series" (later shortened to World Series) in the hope that other nations such as Australia and Great Britain or other nations would soon play and become major rivals and none have. This didn't happen, but the name World Series stuck. It would be nice to see best championship teams from America, Japan, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Cuba and other competitive nation to have the real "World Series" in November every year after the major league season is over.

Great information sfip3330 So they knew back then what "Worlds championship Series" meant but I guess the name just stuck. Every 4 years the world has a World Cup in soccer and many countries get a chance to compete. 2006 Italy won it and yes they were called world Champions.... Anyway back to topic. Well done to the Yankees for being the Champions. NY loves it when they win.
Helloklitty,
1-Usually the MVP award is given to a player on the winning team.
2-The (New York)fans in the stadium were the ones chanting MVP; NOT the Japanese media.
3-FYI, Matsui is Japanese. The people forced into internment camps were American.
but I guess giving Matsui the MVP means we're all square on the internment camps, right?

Good point, fightfan2008. I fail to see helloklitty's logic here. The issue of internment camps is something Japanese-AMERICANS are concerned with. Japanese people could care less about this issue.

So they should all have a state of Origin Match so you get to play for their country. The last world Champions were South Korea in the 2008 Olympics.
