He's still not as good a player as Ichiro....

blue tiger why even compare the 2? they are 2 different people. 2 different players. 2 different types of game. ichiro is a slap hitter who gets on base a lot . matsui is a power hitter who hits more home runs & has more rbi's . ichiro plays right & matsui left.

But they are still outfielders and Matsui can't touch Ichiro in terms of having game. If the Yankees could do a straight up swop of Matsui 4 Ichiro they'd do it in a N Y minute. Power hitter ? 9 home runs ?

Time for both Matsui and Ichiro to retire next season. Matsui half of the season is on DL and Ichiro's batting average hardly 0.2 with runners in scoring position.

Matsui's season has been ruined by injuries. Hopefully he'll get the knee sorted out for next season. I can see him moving to another club though.

Why not compare them, jinjapan? I do so mostly because -- for some odd reason -- Matsui is getting all this undeserved hype from the media, and what has he done? Next to nothing in his career in the majors. Ichiro, on the other hand, has made the All-Star Game EVERY YEAR he's been in the USA, has 200 hits in each season he's been in the USA, and has a laser for an arm in the outfield. Yet despite this, the J-Media has little to say about Ichiro. Yes, he and Matsui are different people, yes, they both have differeing hitting styles, but the bottom line is, so what? These types of players are compared daily, and in viewing the stats between the two, Ichiro has been FAR more consistent in his play than Matsui.....yet Matsui gets the media play. In my opinion, Fukudome is a better player than Matsui.

Look at what Ichiro says everytime they give him some air. National embarassment mitigated by some good hand-eye co-ordination.

Gosh, I hope he has health insurance.
