No backtracking from me freak ! Where exactly did "I" say that pitching a complete game is more important than getting a win ??? Those are "your" words arent they ! Case closed ! Now nigelboy avoided the question about why Matsuzaka can't finish a game at the ml level even though he was doing it quite regularly in NPB ! What's the deal ? Could it be that "Diced" isn't worth all the hype ? It appears so ! Hell even Wang from the Yanks has a complete game this year, at half the price of ol Diced K. Maybe if he had gotten rid of the metabolic syndrome during the off season like some of us suggested, he might be able to go 9... but then again "if" !
"So why the misinformation by JT ? Hell they even went as far as to delete the story about Matsuzaka's 5 foot pitch ! Every other news outlet didn't ! Simple poor reporting, or slanted editing ? You decide !"
Now nigelboy avoided the question about why Matsuzaka can't finish a game at the ml level even though he was doing it quite regularly in NPB !
I don't think I did. You just ignored it.
In the NPB, starting pitchers are allowed to pitch 130 pitches while in the MLB, 100 pitches seems to be the norm. It's just two different schools of thought and NPB is slowly adapting to the MLB style of utilizing middle relief, spot relief ,set up man and a closer. During 1977, MLB had a total of 907 CG. Thirty years later, it's down to 102 CG. The role of a starter is changing. I don't know why you're so bent out shape.
Good post nigelboy. Westurn can't get it through his thick skull that times have changed in MLB. He doesn't even realize why there is such a thing as relief pitching. If he did, he would stop and realize that without DiceK's wins, the Red Sox would be a sub .500 team. Fact is, DiceK is the second highest paid starting pitcher on the Red Sox team, which means he should be considered the #2 starter on his team. The results this year shows that he is more than pulling his weight (since Josh Beckett hasn't quite shown the form he had last year, and so haven't any of the other Boston Red Sox starting pitchers).
Oh, and Westurn, you like to say that it is because DiceK is on a good team that they are winning. However, you fail to realize that the Red Sox are not being such a good team this year. They have not been all that good at the plate, and have been even terrible at fielding (just look at all of their shortstop Lugo's errors).
I'm sure the dissers will still come up with something like, "Well, it was Matsuzaka who threw the pitch that was hit to Lugo who ends up booting it for an error, so Dice-K is ultimately responsible for making Lugo suck"...
Good point Kwaabish. I'm sure the dissers are eating their words since Sox starters have lost the past 4 games. Let's see now ... who was on the mound the last time the Sox won .... hmmm ....
"I'm sure the dissers are eating their words since Sox starters have lost the past 4 games."
And with folks like Okajima giving up a grand slam to tag a teammate with a loss, well looks like the Nipponjin could be in more hot water !
Sorry, I'm not a Duck K fan. Like others have posted, way too much press, not enough performance. He's struggling this year. Safe to say, if he's on any other team, he has a losing record. He's just not the dominant pitcher you two, freak and nigel, are making him out to be.
More bizarre comments from the resident peanut gallery. Umm, Kwaabish... the fact that Matsuzaka is 6 and 0 and he has yet to finish a complete game would indicate that the relievers have actually won games "for" him. Unlike Okijima who half-assadley went out tossed some fluff and dicked his teammate for a buncha runs against his e.r.a. as well as a lose. looks like Matsuzaka and Okijima aint the only ones lacking game !
You seem to have a very selective and convenient memory. Your comments that I posted from a different thread was based upon the Toronto game where you were blatently wrong in the course of events that took place during the game. You had wronglfully accused Matsuzaka of being responsible for the runner who scored taking away his chance to win, when in fact, Matsuzaka had left with a 1-0 lead at the end of the inning. It was Delcarmen's runner who took away the win from Matsuzaka and you stated that Matsuzaka should take the blame since he did not pitch a complete game.
In that same "interesting" logic that you ranted on then, should not the starting pitcher who loaded the bases be blamed for the loss instead of Oki taking the heat for letting them score?
Or are you now admitting that Matsuzaka had a win taken away from him by the bullpen?
sorry, to clarify, Matsuzaka left at 0-0 at the top of the inning, but Boston scored at the bottom of the inning to give a chance for Matsuzaka to leave with a win at 1-0.
Either way, Matsuzaka left with a chance for the win and the bullpen gave up the win.

Well, since you were the one that used the logic in a past post claiming the following:
"The bullpen should take the blame for Matsuzaka not getting the win."
No Way Jose ! Matsuzaka should take the blame for "not" pitching a complete game ! End of story !
So you must have changed your prior position which you argued so hard before in a different thread to start blaming Okajima now?
Either way, Oki's blown hold is off topic to this thread. Nice way to deviate the discussion though.

And Dave Ortiz was chosen the "player of the game" !
