SENDAI —
Scott McClain homered and Yuki Saito pitched six-plus shutout innings as the Hiroshima Carp beat the Rakuten Eagles 2-0 to extend their winning streak to six games in interleague play on Monday. McClain had a leadoff shot off Kohei Hasebe (3-4) to the stands in left in the fifth—his first homer since May 2—and Eishin Soyogi followed with a two-out RBI single at Kleenex Stadium.
Saito (3-3) allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five batters en route to winning his first decision since April 29. Katsuhiro Nagakawa worked the ninth for his 16th save. Rakuten suffered its first three-game skid of the season. ‘‘We had a five-game winning streak going, so I really didn’t want to lose as I pitched tonight,’’ Saito said. ‘‘I was able to locate my fastball and slider down in the zone from the first inning. I had good stuff.’’
