This was no 'accident,' Stewart intended to intimidate or get back at Ward, and ended up killing him.

Stewart may very well have tried to brush him back with his race car - which is crazy - but it's plum bonkers for a crashed out driver to walk out into the middle of a race track so he could shake his fist at the other guy as he is going by at high speed. Especially as it was a dirt track. I don't think you can hold Stewart responsible unless there is clear evidence that he deliberately ran him down.

How long has NASCAR been allowing drivers to walk out on a race track into on coming race cars when they have felt aggrieved? I've seen it many times. That needs to stop or the racers should be fined. Otherwise, it's bound to happen again sooner or later.

Walking out into a live racing circuit is akin to walking onto a busy train track. Suicide. Rest in Peace to this young racer - his moment of madness has cost him his life.

Tragic.

I think this 20 year old kid wanted a pic he could post on his twitter or facebook page where he got into Tony Sterwatr's face. Any you never do that from the outside side, you do it from the infield side because the cars naturally drift outside.

@wolfpacK: It wasn't a NASCAR race, it was a sprint car race and Tony was moonlighting.

In the end, I'm beginning to wonder was this needless tragedy necessary.

Ward unwisely walked into the middle of a track with ill-handling Sprint cars going by at 85 to 100 km/h on a somewhat poorly-lit track at night wearing a near-black racing suit. And don't forget he nearly got run over by another racer before that final collision. Anyone who's driven an USAC Sprint racer note that visibility looking right can be very poor, and combine that with Ward nearly impossible to see resulted in the perfect storm circumstances for this tragedy.

It was under yellow flag, and the Sprint cars were going around 40mph (around 60km). Under most condition, Ward should've never got out of his race car. They would've got a tow car and pull the car to a safe location.

Should be BIG fines. And suspension. A lot of times it takes an incident like this to get that done.

This was not a NASCAR sponsored race. Point is young inexperience driver like Ward should've known that, regardless if it was a yellow flag, when the cars are moving much slower, you never get out of the car and confront anybody when these cars are moving. He should've stay put for his own safety. Ward made a mistake.

ANYBODY should know not to walk into traffic, if they're old enough to be on the track. Point is, the race organizers are in charge, and they should also know that it should be prevented.

Have the race organizers been ignoring it up to now because it makes good theater? Can picture the announcers' excitement when it happens. Maybe there are fines in place already, just not big enough, or not enough suspensions?

One person responsible for this tragedy and that is the guy who walked in black clothing into the path of passing race cars, It seems tony stewart didn't see this guy until the last minute and attempted to steer around him by using the throttle, which is how these cars are steered,

RIP to that young guy and thoughts with tony stewart who will have to live with this event for the rest of his life.

If you loose your self control to the extent that you climb out of your race guy and try to threaten intimidate someone going by you in another race car then you are not a fit a proper person to be racing in the first place.

Sprint car racing is a fast and exciting sport, and sometimes collisions do happen despite drivers best intentions to avoid contact.
