Typical. This is the same guy, who as a manager, ordered his pitchers NOT to pitch to a foreign player who was closing in on his home run record. Any he reportaedly threatened to fine them if he did. And, he is an "ambassador" for Japanese baseball? I guess that's appropriate, since he apparently wants to keep it strictly Japanese baseball.
Just out of interest, I was under the impression that Oh-san was still a Taiwanese citizen (the child of a Taiwanese father/Japanese mother) rather than being Japanese. If this is true, then he is just another foreigner like the rest of us.
Timor you're right but just like Darvish," hafu" means little at the top of sports if you speak the language and fall into line. Both of them were registered as Japanese in Japan.
Oh might be a little controversial, but its still a better choice than getting someone like Kiyohara in. With theroids stories going around at the moment they needed someone who wouldn`t attract any kind of elephant-juice related attention.

herefornow...beat me to it. Not exactly the best choice for 'special ambassador'.
If I remember correctly, the batter was so exasperated at one stage he held his bat t'other way round. Didn't make a difference.

Not once but on three occasions. First time was against Randy Bass, second time was Ralph Bryant, and the third time was against Alex Careera?

Sorry it was Tuffy Rhodes and not Ralph Bryant. As far as I know the single season homerun record in Japan is jointly held by Oh, Rhodes and Careera.
