Well good for you Mr. Kei to rise in the world of tennis long dominated by Whites and Anglo-saxons. And having a stomach flu yet decided to continue playing against Ferrr in the Mexican open was commendable but better take care of your health first i think.

strange how the ranking system works, because of the last few games they played, Murray is clearly the superior player.

Gold, Silver, Bronze...4th? Not in top three.

Are you?
Who are you to pass judgement on Nishikori's achievements?

Some14, being ranked 3rd does not get you a medal. I think you are confused with the Olympics.

Why belittle someone's achievements?

I commend Kei Nishikori for his dedication and hard work. He deserves to be proud of his outstanding achievement moving up in the new world rankings to number 4. May his future efforts be equally successful and rewarding. I wish him the very best.

Good on him. Like Novenachama says, he has worked his way up through the ranks with a lot of hard work and dedication. He generally faces opponents who are bigger and more powerful than him, but he has developed a good all-around game to be competitive with these guys. Plus he has a lot of heart. Reminds me of Michel Chang.

At any given point in time the world tennis ranking is based on a player's performance and result over the past 52 weeks. The player's ranking is determined by his or her result at a maximum of 19 tournaments for singles and 11 for doubles. Some tournaments are worth more points than others and it's all based on prestige, prize money, and the field of players.

Not to disparage Kei's 4th ranking at all - he's my favourite player alongside Federer - but both Nadal and Murray have spent a lot of time off the court recently due to injury, which has effected their rankings. If they can all put in a full season this year, Kei will need to be on top of his game to keep this spot.
But I think he can do it. As he said himself, there's no one that he can't beat anymore.
