I don't believe it. These types can't help it, they don't think, only speak.

“I plead with you to observe the rules on bid activities and make sure this kind of trouble does not occur a second time,”

2nd time? Seems to me that your predecessor beat you to the punch on being the "first" to put his foot in his mouth.

“Politics and religion are complicated issues,” Igaya said. “If there are 115 members of the IOC and there will be 115 different ways of thinking. All we can do is do our utmost to make something good come out of this disaster.”

I wonder if he thought this up by himself? Thank you (dumb sarcasm here) for stating the obvious.

Gah. Too little too late...

I love it how in every article people always have a stab at Ishihara. Love it.

This has got nothing to do with him. We are talking about the Olympics. Yes when it comes to winning the host city prize the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut about other contestants.

But what did he say?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Dennis - he apologized for what he said, so that remark does not exist anymore.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Good luck with that. You must realize you are dealing with a xenophobe just like Ishihara was.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Ishihara was the chairman, when Inose broke IOC rule

Yeah, so the guy's going to choose his words more carefully, but not change his thinking.

It is always only the little people in Japan who have to be "modest" and hold their tongues. Perhaps they will learn that this is just ideology to keep them in their place. The fools at the top have plenty of latitude for verbal diarrhea.

No more blunders?

How about issuing a roll of duct tape to be worn over the mouth in public for all officials with media access. That might might do the trick.

Too little, too late! This the real world where a humble apology and a deep bow will not exonerate you off your foolishness.

Cortes: "This has got nothing to do with him. We are talking about the Olympics."

Really? Who launched the bid, pres tel? And whom does Inose sound like when he makes such racist remarks, which were part of the reason his predecessor lost the bid? He is perfectly relevant to the discussion.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Actually, he isn't. No further discussion of Ishihara, please.

I reckon Tokyo is still in with a chance. Spain's economy is almost dead. Istanbul is a riskier choice. Tokyo has the necessary infrastructure already in place. Istanbul should try for 2024 (although they have already failed in their Olympic bids 5 times before).... Go Tokyo!

Looks like Turkey will get 2020 Olympic Nobody in /turkey broke IOC rukes, Osaka can bid foe 2024. Maybe Kyoto?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

<> The same kind of contents with different words?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

If they are interviewed by Japanese journalist(s) of New York Times, I suggest they keep mouth shut. These journalists hear in Japanese and writing in English on latest word processor in English. You can't fool them with carefully changed words. After all, they are journalists.
