One game doesn't prove much of anything, especially with Japan having home advantage. Play at least a best-of-three series, do it annually, and rotate the location of the competition between Japan and South Korea.
A shame, but hardly surprising. S. Korea was the only real competition
for Japan in the whole thing. Taiwan showed some promise and
China has improved a bit but they are still in a different
league.
If they are going to hold it in Nagasaki, at least show it on tele.
Hey, maybe next year, they can do it Takejima (Dokto) Winner gets
to decide who owns the rocks for a year!
They could call it the "World Series." It's more international than the present World Series, which hasn't had an international match since the '90s when the Blue Jays were on their game.
It's not at all for the game, it's for a bunch of flag-waving so the team that wins can say they are the best, and the team that loses can defend themselves and say it wasn't 'official'. It also renders tournaments that currently exist as either unnecessary or irrelevant.
And I meant to add that I agree 100% with pathat: ONE GAME means nothing. They need to have a best of five at the very least, with a best of seven being... well... best.
I think we go for a best of 11 then. The 7th game being played using rocks, paper, scissors; the 9th game being ping pong and if they get to the 11th and final game, they dance off. I mean, this truly is another flag-waving contest. It's another woulda, coulda, shoulda won that game if... the other team didn't show up scenario. The other team was never that good. Why play at all and make comments like Ichiro? This will be a breeding ground for bravado and excuses from both countries.

All good until the Korean team plants another flag on the pitcher's mound.

So I guess that puts the nail in the Asia Series.
