"time differences"? I don't think Ichiro is suffering from jet-lag most of the time...

Actually the US has six time zones (if you include Alaska and Hawaii), and games played on the east coast are three hours ahead of Seattle time. In addition, it's a long domestic flight between the coasts, and commercial air travel these days is a nightmare, with security measures like shoe removal, etc., to add to the agony. I think it's a valid comment for Oh to make, especially considering only two out of Japan's 12 pro teams (both in the Pacific League) are not located in Honshu.

I hope someone points out to Oh that in the good ol' US of A the pitchers were not instructed to walk Ichiro when he was approaching the record.

as true as that is, the Mariners have it a little easier... they depart from Boeing Field, not from Sea-Tac Int. Airport...

to the best of my knowledge there are no baseball games played in either hawaii or alaska...plus i don't think the teams are subjected to the same security as the little people are

To Beezlebub.. At the end of each homestand, All team members that are traveling to another city are searched at the stadium before loading onto to Buses going Boeing Field for the next iterniary. This saves time and Boeing Field does not have the facility for ppl to line up thru the Xray machine. Yes Dept of Home security ppl are there with scan wands to search for unwanted and illegal objects before loading the buses. Then the buses head to Boeing field... Homeland security are at the airport before they load the planes.. non-stop .. keep the line moving ...

Hmm, thanks for the information. Pre 9/11 I once ran into the Detroit Lions on my flight out of Chicago's O'Hare. I suppose the NFL players get the same special treatment now. Re Oh's comment on the time zones, I'd still rather fly Fukuoka-Sapporo (which Oh did as a manager but never as a player) than Seattle-Baltimore/Washington any day.

When Ichiro left for the bigs he was a traitor in Japan, now he is a hero. Same story as Nomo.

Anyway, Ichiro is one of the best players ever to be in the game. Good that the stats are starting to line up behind this fact.

81% of his hits are singles. Of these, how many were broken bat dribblers just off the plate? Of course, he's an incredible athlete, and a deserving first ballad Hall Of Famer 5-years after he retires in 2014 (or beyond). His talent, determination and love for the game is as great as anyone. Needless to say, he's drug free. Quite an accomplishment! Never dogged it one day in his professional life.
