OITA —
Defender Masato Morishige struck a late winner as Oita Trinita edged Omiya Ardija 1-0 to stretch their unbeaten run to nine games in the J-League first division on Sunday. Morishige slotted home a rebound in the 87th minute following a corner from Ueslei for a deserved winner for the home side at Kyushu Oil Dome, helping Oita stay in the title hunt two points off leaders Urawa Reds.
On Saturday, Urawa reclaimed the league lead on 40 points after a 3-1 home win over Jubilo Iwata coupled with Kashima Antlers’ 2-1 defeat at home to Nagoya Grampus, who climbed into second on 39, a point ahead of Kashima and Oita. Kawasaki Frontale moved into fifth by edging JEF United Chiba 1-0. At the other end of the table, relegation-threatened Yokohama F Marinos edged bottom club Consadole Sapporo 1-0.
