BANGKOK —
The Olympic torch arrived in Thailand from India before dawn Friday ahead of the torch relay to be held Saturday afternoon in Bangkok amid tightened security. A chartered plane carrying the torch arrived at Don Muang airport in Bangkok, the 12th leg of the global torch relay.
The torch and its Chinese attendants were then taken to a hotel in central Bangkok along a tightly guarded route. The torch relay ceremony will start at 3 p.m. Saturday in Bangkok’s Chinatown, reflecting the close relationship between Thailand and China, according to Yuthasak Sasiprapha, president of National Olympic Committee of Thailand.
