OSAKA —
The Orix Buffaloes said Tuesday that former Cincinnati Reds outfielder George Foster will play an advisory role in scouting activities as the so-called ‘‘cross-checker.’’
Foster, 61, who led the National League in home runs twice and RBIs three times between 1976 and 1978, will cross-check players recommended by U.S.-based scouts. He acted as a part-time coach in Orix’s spring training camp in 2006. Foster plans to watch Orix players in Miyakojima, Okinawa, from Wednesday.
