Short summary of big story : Iwamura's two costly errors (bottom of 3rd and 4th innings)combined with his 0-4 at bat (3 LOB) decided the fate of Rays. Team manager may be regretting for not following Phillies who have sidelined Taguchi !

You forgot to mention Longoria's 0-4 at bat and .000 BA in this series. Also, Pena's 0-4 at bat and .000 BA in this series. Not to mention Bartlett's measly .182 BA in this series and 0-4 at bat today. All in all it was a tough day for the Rays. So I guess you are saying that Maddon is regretting benching Longoria, Pena, and Bartlett too. The Rays still have a shot though. Go Rays!

yes, but it was Iwamura (two errors in the early stage) who did not allow starting pitcher to settle down and spoiled the rhythm of this important game. And for your information, we are told by JT that it is about Japanese players and not necessarily about MLB.

3 down.
@some14some: um... it might also have had something to do with the Phils hitting 4 home runs off pitchers (and I know this may shock you) WHO WERE NOT JAPANESE! And for your information, JT reports on these games because Japanese players are present. That doesn't mean that Japanese players are necessarily the reason the games go the way they do. JT knows that - they dedicated an entire HALF A SENTENCE to Iwamura's errors. He didn't account for the EIGHT OTHER RUNS the Phillies scored.
Sorry, Hotbox... I'm pretty sure the Phils are going to finish it up tonight. They have everything going for them - home field, momentum, the best pitcher on either team on the mound, the big bats waking up... It might be close, but I can't see the Rays taking this one. Helluva good team and great manager, though.

You are correct, that Iwamura didn't play well at all today. In fact, he played sh**. However, your previous post only mentioned Iwamura's terrible day. I am just being fair. If you read all my posts about the Rays, I like to give condemnation when it's due, but also like to give credit when it's due. Sure, there are those out there that only like to mention Iwamura and other J-players when they do good. Yet, there are posts like yours that only mention J-players when they do bad. IMHO, it's much fairer to do both. Today, I condemn Iwamura, but I also commended him in my post about him in Game 1, since he did hit very well, 3-4 with an RBI, with errorless play at second. Did you do the same?
Please read this article again. I fail to see anywhere where they have glossed over Iwamura's terrible play today.

JohnBecker,
Yeah, the Ray's hopes are miniscule at best. But I'm not giving up on them yet. A lot of their players have just been shutdown by good Phillies pitching and opportunistic baserunning, but I would go to war with any of these guys. The Ray's have shown a lot of guts to just make it this far, after having the worst record last year. Just making the playoffs was their goal, and anything they do now is just icing on the cake. It is good though to see a guy like Crawford getting his licks, since he is one of the few that has been through the good and the bad.
Oh well, good job by Philly, but good job too by Tampa.

Can't blame some14some for this one, he's right on the money nine times out of ten. I note that post-season coverage has expanded to more than two paragraphs. Prior to that it was basically Matsuzaka versus Ichiro versus Godjira versus whatever other Japanese player was reason for the whole nation to feel proud in their collective triumph over adversity. At least Iwamura's errors were mentioned here; the shame will have to be conveniently overlooked and omitted from most other J-coverage.

Well, at least someone from JT watched the world series, as hardly anyone else has. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5gHTCaLQnQBxLgh-jCaBDeAq55Zvg

Iwamura continues to kill his team ! The guy has been O fer eight the past two games, two errors, and he has stranded 4 on base ! There is a definite trend here among Japanese players... they fold under pressure ! I say yank him out, put some hard nosed American kid in there and send Iwamura back to Nippon. Sorry, but outside of selling tickets to Japanese tourists visiting the USA, he's pretty much worthless !

Lieutenant, boobug, and some14some: you hit the nail right on the head. As an NL fan (Cubs) I am glad to see the Phillies do well. Alot like the Dallas Green days in 1980. Great team then Schmidt, Rose, Boone, Carlton, and Garry Maddox. Go Phillies!

Again, spoken like someone who knows diddly about baseball. O-8? So is the rest of his team. Baseball is a team game, and teammates don't harp on each other when one of their own has a bad game or two. Heck, in Game One, Akinok was the only one getting the hits, while the rest of his teammates were hitting air, but he never berated them or looked down on them. That's a true teammate. Yes, Iwamura has been terrible the past two games, but posters like you only post to berate, but never to compliment when they do good. Bandwagoners are not welcome here. I, on the other hand will give credit when it's due and condemn when it's due.
And I should remind everyone that this is the Rays' first time in the postseason, much less the World Series. I mean, c'mon, it took them less time to make it to the big stage than say the drought that teams like the Cubs or Indians are in. They are a young team, in the World Series for the first time in their franchise's history, and without the payroll that other teams have. I tip my hat to them for fielding a team that has no true star, who plays defense, and does all the little things to win all season, when not very many of their own fans came out to even watch them. And besides, we have to acknowledge that Philly is a good team. To say that one player is killing them is a disservice to their opponent.
Yes, Tampa Bay is not doing well, but you can't single one player for this. It is the whole TEAM. And besides, Iwamura makes the least amount of money among his infieldmates, so the burden is not on him.
But go ahead, belittle the losers to take away any credit which is due to the winners. I for one would like to say good to Philly for playing a good game, but also good on Tampa for getting this far, in a season where everyone picked them to place last in the AL.

Sorry Hotbox but its alot like the Royals in 1980, one guy humping (Brett) is not going to win it. It was the Royals first time too. But '85 turned it around. Give the Rays time and maybe, but the fact is they`ve looked out matched against the Phillies like the '80 Royals. Again I'm a Cubs fan, and unlike some I recognize greatness, the Rays came a long way, just like the Royals of '80 (great managaer Jim Frey, Hal Mc Rae, Frank White, George Brett, Amos Otis) great team but could not get the whole thing together.

Then I feel sorry for you ptolemy. It seems like the Cubs will never get it together, even though they have one of the biggest payrolls in the Majors. Oh, and please read my post again. I am agreeing with you in my post, but also disagreeing with posters like boobug, who are merely fairweather "fans" who like to say bad things about others, but never giving compliments when they are due.
