Pro golfer Katayama attends OMEGA Olympic Games exhibition at Shinjuku Takashimaya

Pro golfer Shingo Katayama, who will also represent Japan at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, attended the OMEGA Olympic Games exhibition at Shinjuku Takashimaya, Tokyo, on Friday night.

OMEGA, the Swiss watch brand, is the official timekeeper at this year's Olympic Games. It is the 27th time OMEGA will serve in this role, since the brand first took responsibility in Los Angeles in 1932. It has already been officially decided that OMEGA will reprise this role at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang and at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

To commemorate the Olympic Games year, “OMEGA Watch Exhibition, Olympics Official Timekeeper” is being held on the 1st floor of Shinjuku Takashimaya until Tuesday Aug 2.

At the exhibition, timing equipment actually used in previous Olympic Games and normally kept at OMEGA Museum in Switzerland will be on display. Also on display and on sale, will be Rio de Janeiro Olympics limited edition model watches, of which only 3,016 have been produced.

Katayama said, “I will aim for the gold medal as shiny as the beautiful color of this watch. As the first Japanese golfer competing in the Olympics, I would like to play really well. I would be thrilled if young people are inspired to be an Olympic athlete by watching my play.”

In Rio, golf returns as an official sport of the Olympic Games after an absence of over 100 years.
