Wonder if Darvish has any clue as to who Nolan Ryan is -- other than the president of the club -- and what he accomplished in his career. Ryan could teach him a lot about pitching in the majors if he is willing to listen and learn.

Regardless of financial terms this should be a done deal no? Darvish did say before "It's not about the money"?

It's going to take a total investment of $115-125 million on the part of the Rangers to get Darvish to play for them this upcoming season, IMO. As I've said before, the presence of other Japanese like Uehara and Tateyama should be helpful too.
I think Darvish will ink a contract with the Rangers soon for the simple reason that he won't be FA eligible for MLB after next year either. We shall see.

Ryan pitched his fifth career no-hitter for the Astros in 1981 when Darvish's father was playing college soccer for Eckerd College and excelling at motocross in the U.S. I imagine Darvish's father knows exactly who Ryan is, therefore the answer is yes, Yu Darvish almost certainly does have a clue who Ryan is.

Looks like we're going to get a lot of Rangers' games on NHK BS next season. If only he could sign for my hometown "cubbies"!

So much wasted money.
So, is he finally going to get the divorce? Guess he doesn't plan of help raising his two kids - not that he is now anyway...

He's not worth the money being talked about.

I have to believe Darvish is the real deal. A 1.44 ERA is astounding, and even if it were to go up to 2.5 in MLB, it would still be among the league's best.
If the Rangers get him, they have to be favorites to win this year.

Darvishi seems to be an excellent pitcher and I'm sure he'll put up some decent numbers in the majors. But it's not just the numbers on the field, it's the numbers he brings to the bottom line. The Rangers will make millions from licensing, broadcasts, ticket sales, etc. The Japanese will televise every game he pitches and pay a lot of money for it. That brings advertising dollars also. He's a great player, but he will also bring a lot of income to the Rangers that other players don't.

He's a "great" player in Japan; that does not translate over to MLB. In Japan he only faces a few good hitters on each team -- the rest are cream cakes. In the US is will face 5 or 6 really good hitters on each team. I wish him luck if Texas does eventually sign him...

Tatanka, that's why I was allowing for his ERA to go up by as much as a full point. NPB hitters aren't MLB hitters, but the man still is going to be successful. IF his years in NPB haven't already ruined his arm.

Rangers should be cautious of history of arm problem that Darvish had in 2006 and 2009. Sure Darvish has a good stuff, but will he have a serious arm problem way before his contract is up? I hope he's not another Barry Zito.

Who was the last Japanese pitcher to make the jump and NOT have any arm issues, beyond one inning Sasaki?
