I thought the owners of the Redskins was going to change this "racist" name.

Griffin seems to be garnering a portfolio of gruesome photos. Take a close look at the foot on the ground:

"Owner" as in: singular.
The owner (Dan Snyder) has never said he is going to change the name of the team, so wherever the source of that thought you had came from, it was false.
While the word certainly was used to describe a particular race back in the 1800's and early 1900's (and therefore was indeed racist back then), I can say with 100% honesty that despite living near two different Upstate New York indian reservations in the 1980's, I never heard the term ever used except when in regards to the Washington D.C. football team. The word's racist connotations died out a long time ago and for the last 50 to 60 years has ONLY meant the football team.
