I used to hate Fuji TV for their F1 coverage. I hated the late-night canned slot, the tone and bias of the commentary, and I hated the splurge of invasive commercials blocking out vital sections of the race seemingly at random.

Imagine my surprise to discover there is no TV coverage any more in Japan since that the rights have been bought by Fox, meaning that F1 can not now be shown free in Japan, not even a potted late-night ad-heavy bastardized version. Grrrr.....

Fuji has managed somehow to negotiate rights for this season as a one-off, but only if you pay them to watch it on CS.

No wonder old and potentially new Japanese fans of F1 will be lost. Now I find myself thinking fondly of those late-night weekend F1 digests. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, indeed.

This could tip the balance and encourage me to leave Japan. Grrrr.... Except that this pay-to-view scandal is happening all over the world. The innocence has been lost. Bernie Ecclestone, are you to blame?
