For a second I thought Ishikawa finally won something. Guess not. Congrats to the real Ryu!

Congratulations to So Yeon Ryu (should say the whole name since it is kind of rude in Korean culture to only say one of their names)! She is the newest in a long line of Korean golf stars. It's funny how unheralded stars like her shine, while over-hyped ones like Michelle Wie is "going backwards" (as Annika Sorenstam recently said in an interview about her).

I don't think Wie is going backwards, she's a full time student. Let's see what happens when she graduates.

    Anyway congrats to young Ryu!

You mean, other than the 10 tournaments he's already won?

It wasn't me who said it. It was what the 8 time player of the year, Annika Sorenstam said. I think she is one who knows her golf and pretty much knows what she is talking about. Besides, other young golfers like Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer have won more tournaments than Michelle has, but get less publicity and hype. I wonder why.

LOL. Everytime shythinjapan posts something he can't hide his anti-Japan bias and making a fool of himself. There was even no mention of Ishikawa but he felt the need to bring his name up. No wonder he's JT's resident clown.

smith, you mean RYO Ishikawa? Don't worry, he's playing this week. Anyhow, congrats to Ryu.

Smorkian: "You mean, other than the 10 tournaments he's already won?"

    This year?

bicultural: I was being a smartass, and that's all. I give my heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Ryu in this instance (and will do so for Ryo if he wins something this year). In any case, I think it's amazing that so many Asians are making serious grounds into golf. There have always been a couple, but now they are starting to dominate.

Eh, she's just got an opinion like you or I. Look at Johnny Miller - he's a major winner but when he's an announcer he is full of crap 90% of the time.

Besides, if any of us could predict what's in a golfer's future we'd be much richer than we are.

Besides, other young golfers like Morgan Pressel and Paula Creamer have won more tournaments than Michelle has, but get less publicity and hype. I wonder why.

Pressel and Wie have won the same number of times on tour, and Wie is a year younger. Creamer is 3 years older. Creamer does get a lot of hype - at least as much as Wie does, probably more.

But Michelle Wie's appeal is easy to understand - child prodigy (shot a 68 in a men's tourney at age 14), long hitter, attractive and smart woman.

Smorkian: While I do agree with you that Wie is a good player, you have to agree that she is in no way in the same class as players like Kerr, Tseng, Jiyai Shin, or Karrie Webb, even though the media make her out to be. Yani Tseng, by the way (who is only one year older than Wie), has already four major trophies to zero for Wie. At least Pressel (the youngest major winner) and Creamer have their major trophies. It's even amazing to me that many media outlets paint Michelle Wie as the female version of Tiger Woods. It doesn't get any easier for her as unheralded golfers like So Yeon Ryu and Hee Kyung Seo get better and actually start winning more major tournaments.

I don't think that's the case at all. I think media types really wanted her to develop into that but from what I have read these past few years the media members are her worst critics.

    Absolutely.

I just don't see that at all. And Yani Tseng is just amazing - she's probably the female Tiger. She seems like a cool cat as well!
