FIFA made soccer history by trialling the first of two goal-line systems to be used at the showpiece event, but the match in Yokohama passed without GoalRefs magnetic field technology being required to determine a close call.

Well of course. These kind of close goal line calls happen once every few weeks or so in a full 20-team league so its quite likely that the handful of games in this tournament will pass without it being needed. Which makes me wonder why they didn't trial it in full league for a season.

Even by Club World Cup standards this year's competition is a freakshow. Chelsea already out of the Champions League so they can hardly claim to represent the best in Europe. Auckland always seem to be in this competition.. I guess they must be one hell of team.
