Olympics should be reserved for sports such as swimming and gymnastics and wrestling, the ones that don’t get a lot of attention outside of their every-four-years moment in the spotlight.

Exactly.

Yes, but swimming has too many events.

Golf should never have been included in the first place. The Lords of the Rings just wanted more sponsorship money.

Good on them, the Olympics are just crap TBH. Each event's own world championships are far higher quality and higher prestige

The issue isn't golf per se but rather multi millionaire (male) golfers themselves. Women have embraced Rio and there is no reason the comp isn't going to be a cracker.

Durant, Anthony, Gasol or Tony Parker also make millions in the nba yet they know what the Olympics represent.

When i read that Dustin Johnson 'didn't dream of an Olympic gold' as a kid i can't help but think he missed what sport and the olympics are all about.

These guys would probably not want to stay at the village with other athletes/plebs anyway so i guess they are making the right decision.
