The nail in the coffin of the Ishihara 2020 summer Olympics? On can only hope he understands that there is now almost no chance for his pet project and he will stop wasting money on this pipe dream of his!

Take off, Pyeongchang....finally. Congratulations to Korea for a well deserved bid. I am happy that they are in the same time zone, it has numerous advantages for Japan. Highly recommend everyone to watch the movie 'Take Off' which explains the story behind their wish to host the Winter Olympics.

The only question now is how much, not if, Ishi will waste on his Quixotic journey to Olympic imfamy. A logical person would reasonably think, "well, this isn't happening. Let's not waste our money." But Mr. "Tokyo Shin-Ginko" has never been accused of being logical. Sigh, more of my tax yen down the drain...

“I am lost for words about now,” Kim said. “I’m really excited. It will be very good to compete in my own country.”

I like her but isn't she making a big assumption? It IS seven years from now.

Congratulations S. Korea! It will be nice having things happening in the same time zone. (though I may need to take some time off work,...)

Paulinusa: In all likelihood she'll still be competing at 27 years of age. It's not like she'll be in her 40s or something.

Anyway, I figured SK would get it for sure, but not by that margin. Congrats to SK -- it'll be nice to see the Olympics in this time zone (if I'm still here, that is).

Congratulations to Korea for getting the 2018 Olympics!

Good point. Kim Yu Na would in all likelihood make her last Olympics appearance in Sochi. With the level of the young crop of female skaters in Korea growing rapidly, she would be hard-pressed to qualify in 2018, unless of course, Korea gets to field 3 or 4 female skaters that year (which I guess could happen).
