I hope Sugiyama and Hantuchova win, they seem to be a winning combination. Wonder who else is playing in the Australian Open.... JT could you add the results of other matches at the end of the article.
Once again, JT mentions NO information about other players in other matches. I think it may be the Williams' sisters they play.
JT editors, you have been showing yourselves to be so narrow-minded. There are other exciting/classic matches going on such as Serena's semifinals singles etc...and in the interest of good balanced reporting, it would do you better to give variety of reporting.
Blue Tiger:
The news reports on TV made it look as if Sugiyama was playing singles. Then I realized she had Hantuchova as her sidekick.
It was just like when Krumm-Date played her first round match. Switch off the sound while watching the NHK news report, and you see her winning all her shots, but then when the final score comes up, you realize she lost. No offence to Sugiyama, but had she lost in the semi-finals, the Japanese media would have stopped reporting on any news from the Australian Open.
I also notice that the Jp announcers refer to the duo as 'Sugiyama pair'.
But not mentioning the opposition is probably just a case of the Japanese rarely winning at this level of sports that gets them excited and forgetful.
For those of you posers who don't follow tennis, Hantuchova and Sugiyama are playing Serena and Venus Williams in the final. Seems like some posters here only use "JAPAN" today for their news. Real sports fan, on the other hand, would have known that as well as the fact that Serena and Venus beat an Aussie and Italian (I can't spell their names) in straight sets to advance to the finals. It's too funny that there are so many people who pose as sports fans and use this "Japan" today site as a source for their "World" sports news. LOL I guess what you all want is this site to change its name to "WORLD Today" and put up some more balanced "WORLD news". Sounds good to me.
Hotbox08, I know who is playing in the finals and in other matches, I just think it would be common courtesy to list the results of other matches for the readers. I'm not saying that they have to report on the results of every sport competition in the world. I don't use JT as my source for news or sports, and I'm sure no one else does, but imagine the uproar if the BBC ("British" Broadcasting Company), only reported on British players' results, or "USA" Today only reported on US players' results. I realize the scale is a bit different from JT, but the idea is the same. By the way, they have a "World" news section if you want some balanced "WORLD news".
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is, I'm a big sports fan; especially when it comes to baseball, basketball, American football, and tennis. It really upsets me when some posters who claim to know anything about sports try to find any article here and try to link some way to rant about something bad about the country they are now living in. If it were me, and I hated the place I lived in, then I would move. It's common sense. Anyway, let's just stick to the sports and forget about the other stuff, and getting back on topic, I saw the match between Hantuchova-Sugiyama and the Williams sisters and as I suspected, Serena and Venus rocked them 6-3, 6-3.
Oh, and I know everyone has a right to whine about whatever they want. But with the state of the world as it is today, I'm sure you all have something better (e.g. the economy, rising food prices) to whine about than "unbalanced sports reporting" as in this one tennis match.

i.e I think it may be the Williams sisters they play in the next round, but I'm not sure.

To listen to the news, you'd think Sugiyama is doing it all by herself....or at least, 99%:1% in Sugi's favour....

Yep, I think Serena has made it to both finals.
