Sugiyama, Sa lose in mixed doubles quarter-finals at Wimbledon

Japan’s Ai Sugiyama and Brazilian partner Andre Sa lost to top seeds Cara Black of Zimbabwe and Leander Paes of India 6-3, 6-3 in the mixed doubles quarterfinals at Wimbledon on Thursday. With Sugiyama’s loss, all Japanese players have been eliminated from the championships at the All England Club. Sugiyama and Sa were unable to convert any of their six break points while being broken three times in the match.
   
Asked if she will return for her 18th Wimbledon next year, Sugiyama said, ‘‘At this point, it’s too early to say I’ll be back. I usually set more short-term goals.’’ ‘‘I got a confidence boost from two wins in singles play, so I look forward to seeing how much I can do at the U.S. Open,’’ the 33-year-old veteran said.
