Chairman Musashigawa looks quite healthy, if any problems, Japan is proud of its medical treatment. I think it is Sumo that has serious health problems and JSA/Education ministry has no fix for it !

The article doesn't mention it, but supposedly he has stomach cancer. He's not well. I imagine the JSA wanted him to stick around until the scandals trickled off, so he could resign in shame to take all the blame. Now, the next guy will have to do it.

Musashigawa rijicho has had a storied career both as a rikishi and an oyakata. Folks should remember that too!

It is a sad situation when a chairman has to step down. Anyone who cares about keeping sumo as a distinct traditional sport appreciates what has been done. Now is the time to look at new ways to encourage an increase in interest in sumo. Modern marketing strategies on TV and public appearance need to be done. Perhaps the new chairman will recognize such a need and move in that direction.

Who cares about Musashigawa? Times have changed. There's not a Japanese Sumo wrestler worth his salt anymore. They should change the name to Sumo in Mongolian, or internationalize completely, not this 1-2 foreigners per stable bs.
