    How does running the marathon as a general participant show her appreciation to her fans? Is it possible that she simply wants to participate in the event without any obligation to perform well for her "fans"?

    If she had grown up in a different country she could have enjoyed a longer, more enjoyable career without obligation to people that contribute nothing to her success beyond chanting gabatte! when she runs by.
