Takahashi to run in 3 major races
TOKYO —
Sydney Olympic gold medalist Naoko Takahashi, who has seen her hopes of appearing in the Beijing Olympics dashed, said Monday she intends to run in all three major races in the next domestic marathon season. ‘‘This plan has been a longtime dream for me and I want to produce good results in such a new challenge,’’ Takahashi said two weeks after failing to book a spot in the Beijing Olympics with a 27th-place finish at the Nagoya International Women’s Marathon.
Takahashi, 35, plans to run in international races in Tokyo in November, Osaka in January and Nagoya in March. Appearing in all of these races is rare for top-level runners.

How long is the media going to follow Takahashi's every move? She won a gold medal 8 years ago and a few other races but she has been no more than an average runner ever since. Now, it seems as though we are constantly kept up to date on all her failures. I don't even know the names of the runners who are representing Japan this year in Beijing, because the stories are always about (with all due respect) a has-been.
