So a guy falls and get first place, unless everyone else fell as well I can't see how this guy could win?

I didn't see this competition, but the last one which was in China, I think, was a right fiasco. Skaters were falling left, right and center, and somehow Oda still managed to get a silver. He was very very fortunate. I'd say his young compatriot, Hanyu, skated much better (until he fell to pieces). I don't know whether they showed everything on TV, but the program I saw only showed the last 4 men - as a consequence, the Chinese guy whose free program was by far the best (judging from the scores) and who went on to win the bronze wasn't shown. Don't you just love 'highlights' on Japanese TV?

@ gogogo Because it's not just about the athleticism. It's also about the other skills, the artistry, technicality and the form. Since much of skating is also subjective, it boils down to who is judging and what they are looking for.

Kozuka doesn't want to be watching Takahashi too much; he'll be learning how to fall down and get his jumps downgraded.
